Sinjar
Sinjar is a town in Iraq immediately south of Mount Shingal. Its population in 2013 was estimated at 88,023. The important Chermera temple (meaning '40 Men') is found on the highest peak of the Sinjar Mountains. The mountains reach a height of 1463 m above sea level. The Yazidis consider Mount Sinjar as sacred and have also used it as a place of refuge.
WARNING: Sinjar remains extremely dangerous and is not safe for travel. All travel to this region should be avoided. | |
