Singkawang is a city in West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

The city of Singkawang is along the west coast of Kalimantan, about halfway between the provincial capital Pontianak and the border with the Malaysian state of Sarawak. About 70% of the population of Singkawang is of Chinese descent, with most being Hakka people.

Get in

Take a bus from Pontianak to Singkawang. The trip takes about three hours or 150 km and cost around IDR 20,000. Singkawang is small trading town and it is famous for its multi cultures and religions people. Singkawang had many nicknames, such as "The City of One Thousand Temples", or Amoy City (Amoy means "Girl in Hakka dialect.)

Indonesian government had given Singkawang honors for being one of the cleanest city in Indonesia. There are several places where you can enjoy in Singkawang, such as Pantai Pasir Panjang (Literally mean Long Sandy Beach),Sinka Island Park, Bougenville Hill, Cidayu Indah Park, Teratai Lake (Lotus Lake),Hang Moi and Waterfall. If you prefer to search more outdoor destinations, you can go to Gunung Poteng exploring the dense rain forest of Borneo, if you are lucky you can spot Rafflesia tuan-mudae Flower (The Largest Flower Species in the world which can grow up 95 cm in diameter)
