See

Sherman boasts a historic and colorful downtown square surrounding the Grayson County Courthouse, built in 1936. Visitors enjoy browsing the downtown shops of Kelly Square, as well as other boutiques, restaurants and antique stores on Travis Street. In addition to the shops around the square, downtown Sherman also features the Municipal Building, once a part of Kidd-Key College. The Kidd-Key auditorium is housed here and was the subject of a multi-million dollar renovation in recent years.

There are many beautiful historic homes in Sherman, including the C. S. Roberts House and Museum on Crockett Street's Heritage Row. In addition, the Red River Historical Museum offers visitors a look at Sherman and Grayson County's bygone times.

Do

  • Herman Baker Park. If you enjoy getting outdoors, visit Herman Baker Park on the western edge of town, off of State Highway 56 (Houston Street), which features a small lake stocked with fish and a hiking trail. Bring some bread to feed the ducks and geese.
  • Fairview Park. In the northwestern part of town near the intersection of Ricketts and Taylor Streets, has a paved walking trail as well as a large playground for the kids, Veterans Field (home of the Sherman Bearcats high school baseball team), Fairview Pool, and several tennis courts and soccer fields.
  • Sherman Public Library. Looking to learn something new? The Sherman Public Library at the corner of Mulberry and Travis Streets in downtown Sherman offers lunchtime lectures and a large selection of books and periodicals.
  • Fourth Saturday. The Fourth Saturday of every month brings craft vendors and sometimes local farmers to the courthouse square. Come out early and get a good look at what Sherman has to offer!
  • Hot Summer Nights. During the summer, the Municipal Building Lawn comes alive every Thursday night for Hot Summer Nights, a free summer concert series featuring acts from around the country.
  • Sherman Arts Festival. In its 25th year in 2007, also comes to the Municipal Building Lawn every September. The "Arts Fest," as it's known locally, features a Judged Art Show & Sale for ages 18 and up, as well as a Youth Art Show. There is also a Woodcarving Show & Sale, a juried Fiber Arts Show, a 5K and Fun Run, live music throughout the day, a pumpkin patch, the annual Pancake Breakfast, a Used Book Sale at the Sherman Public Library, Museum Tours, T-shirt Painting for kids, and plenty of food, arts, and crafts.
  • Sherman Wine & Music Festival. If you're looking for an upscale event, check out the Sherman Wine & Music Festival in October. Local wineries will bring their wares to the Municipal Building Lawn for tastings, accompanied by the sounds of area musicians.

Buy

Antique collectors will find no shortage of treasures downtown. Many small shops line Travis Street.

  • Touch of Class. The three-level Touch of Class Antique shop holds court at the corner of Lamar and Crockett on the square.
  • Sherman Town Center. If you're looking for something a little more modern, the recently constructed Sherman Town Center on Highway 75 South between Loy Lake Road and U.S. Highway 82 offers shoppers many options, from Old Navy and Target to Pier One Imports and Bed Bath and Beyond.

  • Cellarman's American Pub, 2130 Texoma Parkway, +1 903 813-0994. lunch, dinner and beyond. Cellarman's serves up more than 30 beers on tap, more in bottles. Also has a wine list, a scotch list, and a full bar. Food, inexpensive; drinks, inexpensive to expensive. Depends on how thirsty or particular you are.
  • City Limits, 4521 Texoma Parkway, +1 903 893-9117. lunch, dinner and beyond. Local favorite on the Parkway offer a limited selection of beers on tap, a full bar and food ranging from quesadillas (not on the menu) to some awesome chicken fried steak. Inexpensive to mid-range.

gollark: You can *approximate* just checking if it's going in a straight line...
gollark: Actually, if you want to detect just whether it's going straight up or down as opposed to other directions that's easier.
gollark: So what you want is to figure out if three points are (roughly) on a line?
gollark: What do you mean "type of parabola"? <@318817623590830080>
