Sangha and Likouala

Sangha and Likouala is the northernmost, innermost region of the Republic of the Congo, named for the two most important rivers cutting through it (although the most important river in the area is the Ubangi, which runs along the eastern border of the country).

Cities

  • Impfondo — a provincial capital on the Ubangi, on the way to Bangui.
  • Ouésso — a small town, but an important one, as it is the principal transit hub between Cameroon and Congo, and just down the Sangha river from the Central African Republic's Dzanga Sangha National Reserve. It's also a popular base for visiting nearby Pygmy settlements.
