San Jose (Batangas)
Understand
San Jose lies between Batangas City and Lipa; it a common stopover for travellers between Jose P. Laurel Highway, the major route between those locations until the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR Tollway) bypassed it. The town has many poultry farms, producing most eggs and chickens sold in Manila, so, it is nicknamed the "Egg Basket of the Philippines".
Get in
The town lies along the Jose P. Laurel Highway between Lipa and Batangas City, and there is frequent jeepney service from either cities, with cheap fares of β±4 for the first 4 kilometers and an additional β±2 per added kilometer. Southbound provincial buses bound for Batangas City stop at numerous points in San Jose at passenger's request.
The Southern Tagalog Arterial Road does not directly serve San Jose, but you can either exit at Lipa Exit or Ibaan Exit. Travel through Lipa Exit is far the most suggested, as the route via Ibaan Exit runs through forest, not best to travel through at night.
The Philippine National Railways' line to Batangas City passes through the municipal boundaries, but it is abandoned (there are many houses, as well as high voltage line poles lining its right-of-way), with only a few remnants left. There was also a railway station near the Poblacion, but it no longer exists. The railway line is scheduled to be reconstructed as early as 2019 or 2020, but there is no clear timeline for construction yet (see the Batangas City article).
