Sainte-Mère-Église
Sainte-Mère-Église is in Normandy, near the base of the Cherbourg peninsula.
The town is located a few miles inland of Utah Beach, one of the D-Day beaches where the invaders were American. American paratroopers were dropped near the town a few hours before the invasion and a fierce battle ensued; parts of it are portrayed in the film The Longest Day.
