Ramadi

Ramadi (Arabic: الرمادي‎; BGN: Ar Ramādī) is a capital in Ramadi District, in the Al Anbar Governorate region of Iraq.

WARNING: Ramadi remains one of the most dangerous cities on Earth and is not a tourist destination. Those who are travelling here on business are strongly advised to consult their own government first and have an armed guard with them.

Ramadi is the largest city in Al-Anbar province. It fell to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in May 2015, but was recaptured by Iraqi government forces in December 2015, though remaining militants may be scattered around the city

Get in

Ramadi is situated along the rail line from Baghdad, however there has been no passenger service running for at least a decade. In 2018 trains started operating to nearby Fallujah again, raising hopes that passenger services will be extended to Ramadi in the near future. The defunct 🌍 Ramadi railway station is located south of the city.

  • 🌍 Great Mosque of Ramadi (جامع الرمادي الكبير). The largest mosque in Ramadi, with some parts built in 1886. It eas severely damaged during the battle to retake Ramadi from ISIS but was rebuilt in 2017.
