Periyakulam, also known as Mango City for its fresh fruit, is a city in the Theni District of Tamil Nadu.

People coming by train have a convenient train head at Kodai road. At 5AM a private bus from kodai road starts to Periyakulam. Kodai road is at about 45 km form periyakulam. If you miss that bus, don't worry . You can take a bus to Batlagundu and from there you can reach Periyakulam easily.

Another way is to get down at Madurai or Dindigul Railway station.

From Madurai, a passenger train starts at 7.45 AM , which comes to Theni which is 16 km from Periyakulam and it is well connected by road.

Periyakulam is well connected with major cities of tamilnaduby bus service. Mainly with Dindigul, Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Coimbatore.

Vaigai dam can be reached by taking the Andipatty bus at the periyakulam bus stand which has a bus frequency of 20 minutes.

  • Sothuparai dam - located at 12 km from Periyakulam. This dam is built across the Varaha river. It is a beautiful picnic spot. The vide expanse of stored water is an impressive sight.

  • Balasubramanya Temple - One of the important temples in Periyakulam is Arulmigu Balasubramanya Temple. This was constructed by Rajendra Chola nearly 2000 years ago. Periyakulam is connected with all major towns in Tamil Nadu by road. Nearest Airport is Madurai (80 km). Budget accommodation is available.
