Osasco

Osasco is a city in the state of São Paulo, located in the metropolitan area of the city of São Paulo. Fully conurbated with São Paulo and other cities, the dense Osasco is an important industrial district and an emerging business destination, although it has not much to offer to the casual tourist.

Understand

For a city with more than 650,000 inhabitants, the history of Osasco is quite recent. It emerged around the train station with same name, constructed in 1895 and until nowadays the main train station of the city. Osasco was officially founded in 1962, when it was emancipated from São Paulo. In the second half of the XX century, Osasco grew enormously with industrialization and the expansion of the urban area of São Paulo beyond the municipality limits.

Despite its size, Osasco is not particularly interesting for non-business oriented visitors, although this may change in the future, with the recent and impressive economical growth of the city. Osasco is also carrying an ambitious, long-term re-urbanization plan, which consists of remodelling its city center along the shores of the Tietê river.

Osasco is also well-known for its premier female volleyball team, the Sollys, being possibly the only Brazilian city where volleyball rivals football in the hearts of the local people. Note that volleyball is the second most practiced sport in Brazil, and the most practiced among women.

gollark: I mean... maybe?
gollark: Oh, you mean "have people externally label a page", not "have the pages have pointers to an external service".
gollark: There is empirical evidence of this in that we actually have the the various `aria-` attributes now, and basically nothing uses them, although that might just be because we have plenty of semantic elements anyway.
gollark: If you make it rely on explicit annotations, nobody will actually do this.
gollark: For instance, the scripting language is Lua, storage is... SQLite..., pages are also Lua table notation, and headers are Lua table notation too.
