Northern Uzbekistan

Northern Uzbekistan comprises nearly one half of Uzbekistan, dominated by the barren Kyzylkum Desert and the enormous semi-autonomous Republic of Qaraqalpaqstan.

Cities

  • 🌍 Khiva historic Silk Road city, home to UNESCO World Heritage site Itchan Kala.
  • 🌍 Moynoq depressed former fishing town, now miles away from the receding Aral Sea.
  • 🌍 Nukus the capital of Qaraqalpaqstan is the region's only large city, and is the unexpected home of the second largest painting collection of the Russian avant-garde in the world.
  • 🌍 Urgench a big, drab Soviet sort of city, gateway to Khiva.
  • Zarafshan a city truly in the middle of nowhere, Uzbekistan's Gold Capital, home to the Navoi Mining & Metallurgy Combinat.

gollark: See, using SQLite has a bunch of advantages:- faster than filesystems on smaller blobby data- relational and not just effectively a mapping of path to blobs (or textual data as git dislikes blobs)- eventually can swap in SQLCipher and encrypt everything
gollark: ... sure?
gollark: It is not a database.
gollark: > datetimeObviously I already stored that.> can revisions branch like in git?Nope.> tbh why not directly use git?- can't really store/manage structured metadata well- probably annoying to interface with- would require filesystem storage instead of my neat SQLite database thing- apioforms- merge conflicts- likely to end up as a somewhat leaky abstraction
gollark: I'll just leave that constantly as `()`.
