The northern part of the Gran Canaria is a mostly agricultural part of the island.

Arucas

Location: 🌍 Arucas.

  • 🌍 Iglesia de San Juan Bautista. The neo-Gothic church that dominates and dominates the cityscape. The construction of the black lava rock church and a 60 m high tower began in 1909. Eight years later, the first service was held. Completely completed, however, it was not until 1977. It is considered a masterpiece of Canarian stonemasons. The interior features the wooden sculpture of a reclining Christ, created around 1940 by the local sculptor Manuel Ramos González.

  • 🌍 Parque Municipal. Urban park with tropical plants, right on the Plaza de la Constitución.
  • 🌍 Museo Municipal, Plaza de la Constitución 3. M-F 10:00-13:00 and 17:00-19:00, Sa 10:00-13:. Works of Canarian artists
  • 🌍 Jardín de los Hespérides (Jardin de la Marquesa), Casa de la Marquesa, Carretera Arucas-Banaderos. M-F 10:00-12:00 and 14:00-16:00, Sa 11:00-13:00. Tropical and subtropical flora, a ca. 500-year-old dragon tree. €3.
  • Destilería Arehucas, Museo del Ron, Era de San Pedro 2, +34 928 624 900. A rum factory on the outskirts was founded in 1884. The white and brown rum and various liqueurs produced here are very popular in Gran Canaria and in Spain. These include, in particular, the banana rum and the honey rum. Company visits take place Monday to Friday between 10:00 and 14:00. Attached is a museum, open daily 09:00-13:00, where you can learn all about the history of the factory and rum production.

Gáldar

Location: 🌍 Gáldar.

  • 🌍 Church of Santiago de los Caballeros. Also nice Plaza Santiago in front of the church.
  • 🌍 Museum and archaeological park of Cueva Pintada, Cueva Pintada, C / Audiencia nº 2, Gáldar (Gran Canaria), +34 928 895 746. Tu-Sa 09:30-19:00; Su Holidays 11:00-18:30. An inconspicuous brown building near Plaza Santiago next to the theater is the entrance to the museum. It illustrates the life of the Old Canaries (Guanches) through 2 films and exhibits. At the heart of the museum is the tent-covered archaeological site of a village centered on the Cueva Pintada. To visit you should register and arrange a tour. adults €6, tour €2.80.

Teror

🌍 Teror is an idyllic mountain village, place of pilgrimage.

  • 🌍 Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pino. Open every day from 08:00-12:00 and from 14:00-20:00. Located in the old town on the Plaza del Pino. The building was built in 1760 on an older church, from which the octagonal bell tower is still preserved. The Neo-Classical building has white facades framed by dark basalt stones, but appears rather dark inside. Above the richly decorated gilded altar is the statue of the Virgen del Pino. To see the statue up close, enter the church on its back. There is a small museum, it is open M-F 13:00-15:00, Su 11:00-14:00 and 15:30-17:45, the entrance is free. Here you will find on the upper floor magnificent liturgical objects and robes, and you can see the statue of Mary at close range.
  • The Episcopal Palace or Palacio Episcopal. Wed-Fri from 12-14 pm. An elongated building behind the basilica which serves as a gallery.
  • 🌍 Town Hall or Casa Consistorial. A striking building on Plaza del Pino.

Firgas

Location: 🌍 Firgas.

  • 🌍 Church of San Roque. 19th century church with an open belfry from 1914.
  • 🌍 Villa de Agua. House of culture of the municipality of recent date at the Plaza San Roque in traditional design with a beautiful balcony.
  • 🌍 Paseo de Gran Canaria. Main attraction of the place. An artificial waterway flows over flat steps about 30 m through the village. On the sides are tiled benches with the coats of arms of the 21 municipalities of Gran Canaria and the island government. If you follow the path from Calle 18. Julio further up, you can admire the seven Canary Islands in relief.
  • 🌍 Molino de Gofio. A 16th century building housing the Tourist Information.
