New Quay

New Quai (Welsh: Cei Newydd) is a seaside resort town in Ceredigion, popular for its fine beaches and harbour. It's also a good place to spot bottlenose dolphins.

Not to be confused with Newquay.

People enjoy the view on New Quay's harbour and pier.

Only some 1200 people permanently live in this town on Cardian Bay, but in season this number increases significantly as the holiday parks around town fill up.

Get in

The A487 passes a few miles from New Quai. For the small last part to town, follow the A486. There are regular bus connections to Aberystwyth, Aberaeron and Cardigan.

Although the tourism industry has found its way here, New Quai maintains its feel as a fishermen's village. Indeed, sea fishing and fish processing remain large sources of employment and income.

For visitors, the main sights are the beautiful little harbour and of course the beach. Bottlenose dolphins live in the bay and can regularly be spotted from the beach.

Do

  • Hop on a boat for a couple of hours of crab fishing, fishing, or dolphin spotting.
  • Hike around town. One of the best routes is the Cei Bach circular walk, best taken at low tide so you can return via the beach.

Events

  • Cardigan Bay Regatta: 17–19 August 2018. goes back to the 1870s or further and boast cruiser racing, rowing, swimming and other water related competitions. (date needs updating)
