Get in

Mountain City is on US 421 between Bristol and Boone. US 421 between Mountain City and Bristol is a very curvy road, though, and as is often the case in the mountains, the most direct route isn't always the quickest (or most pleasurable). Drivers heading from Mountain City to Bristol are advised to take TN 91 north through Laurel Bloomery to Damascus VA, where they pick up US 58 to Interstate 81 outside Abingdon VA, just north of Bristol.

From Mountain City to Boone, US 421 is a well engineered highway, with passing lanes at intervals between Mountain City and the Tennessee/North Carolina state line. The drive to Boone is approximately a half-hour.

The closest commercial airport is Tri-Cities Regional Airport in Blountville, between Johnson City and Bristol. Charlotte Douglas International Airport in Charlotte NC and Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro NC are within a three-hour drive from Mountain City via US 421 through Boone.

The closest Amtrak stations are also in Charlotte and Greensboro.

Get around
