Mineola
Understand
Mineola is the first major stop in Long Island of the Main and Ronkonkoma Lines of the Long Island Rail Road. The downtown area near the train station is built up, with several relatively tall office buildings and various department stores. Auto dealerships are also part of the mix of retail businesses in town.

By train
There is frequent Long Island Rail Road service to Mineola. The trip generally takes under 40 minutes from Manhattan's Penn Station. Peak 1-way fares are $11.50; off peak 1-way fares are $8.25.
By car
Route 25 (Jericho Turnpike), a major road with traffic lights, goes right through town, essentially from east to west and vice versa. To access Mineola from the Northern State Parkway, take Exit 31A for Jericho Turnpike West. If you are on the Long Island Expressway, take Exit 39 for the Northern State Parkway East and then follow the directions above. There are other alternatives, but this is your nearest approach to the center of town.
Get around
People generally get around Long Island by car, and Mineola is no exception. That said, areas near the train station could be easily accessed on foot.
