Understand
A rural, population 10000 town north of Colchester, Milton is primarily a commuter town housing workers for nearby Burlington and Essex Junction.
Established 1763, it is historically a forestry and dairy farming community; a now-defunct Milton Cooperative Dairy Corporation (1919-1974) served local farmers. Only a handful of farms remain in operation.

Milton is on US Highway 7, bypassed by Interstate 89. Both lead north to St. Albans.
