Masoala National Park

Masoala National Park is in the Antsiranana Province of Madagascar. It is one of six national parks on the east coast of Madagascar that make up the UNESCO World Heritage site Rainforests of the Atsinanana.

Masoala National Park comprises land and sea areas. On land, there's several different types of vegetation; mangrove, rainforest, coastal forest, marsh and flooded forest

Flora and fauna

50% of Madagascar's plant and animal species can be found in Masoala. Highlights include the gold dust day gecko, the red ruffed lemur, the Masoala fork-marked lemur and the hawksbill sea turtle. In the ocean you may spot humpback whales and different dolphins.

The national park is on the east coast of northern Madagascar, the nearest towns being Maroantsetra and Marofinaritra.

Fees and permits

Entrance fees are the same for all of Madagascar's most-visited national parks, with a portion of the fee generally shared with the local communities in an effort to promote conservation. Guide fees are an additional charge. Fees are accurate as of October 2014:

  • 1 day: 25,000 Ar per person
  • 2 days: 37,000 Ar per person
  • 3 days: 40,000 Ar per person
  • 4 days: 50,000 Ar per person
  • Malagasy nationals: 1,000 Ar per person per day.
  • Children of any nationality: 200 Ar per child per day.
