Ma'ale Adumim

Maale Adumim is an Israeli settlement in the West Bank, east of Jerusalem. It has about 37,000 residents.

Understand

There are numerous buses from Jerusalem, most with numbers between 121-129 or 171-179.

If driving, be careful on the freeway downhill from Jerusalem. It's very steep!

🌍 Monastery of Martyrius (Buses 173 and 174, among others, stop here), ☎ +972 2 633-8230. The ruins of an important monastery from the Byzantine period, including some nice, well-preserved mosaics. It was excavated in the 1980s, and now sits in the middle of a residential neighborhood. It is fenced off, and you have to call ahead of time to arrange entry. (updated Mar 2017)

There's not much to do. It's a quiet residential suburb.
