By train

From Astana, trains run frequently during the day. Tickets cost from 850 tenge third class. Slower trains take 5hr 15min, faster ones taken less than 3 hours. Tickets can be bought online.

Get around

Within Karaganda the buses cost 65 tenge per ride. Information on their routes is available here, or [here. A Russian language smartphone app for the bus09.kz is also available called Smart Transport by developer Проект Bus62.

  • KarLag museum - in Dolinka village, 40 km from Karaganda. Ticket 700 tenge, photos 300 tenge extra, English-speaking guide cost 800 tenge. To reach there, take bus 121 from Karaganda to Dolinka, once there at the highway junction take local bus 5 or 205 or 239 (ride 3 stops) which go along the main village road (R-191).
