Kaplıca

Kaplıca (Greek: Davlos) is a village in Northern Cyprus, famous for its beach.

Kaplıca was a Greek Cypriot village before 1974. After the war, the village was depopulated and resettled by Turkish mainlanders. Following the general pattern, the village is in a worse condition than those populated by Turkish Cypriots.

Today, the village has a popular beach with a hotel and many camper vans.

Get in

The village lies on the Northern Coastal Highway. There are no buses to and from the village, so the only mode of transport available is the car. It is about a 10 minute drive from Tatlısu, about 50 minutes from Famagusta and an hour from Nicosia. You may try going to Tatlısu by bus and then hitchhiking from there to Kaplıca.

The village is a 5 minute walk from the hotel on the coast.

See

  • There is a small deserted historical church in the village and the area around is home to chapels scattered around.

Do

  • Watch the sunset - the beach is famous for being one of the places where sunset is the most beautiful in Cyprus.
  • Discover the remote rocky coves around the village.
  • The Sandance Reggae Festival takes place at the end of July or the beginning of August each year at the beach.

There are two supermarkets in the village, and one small market at the hotel, though it's rarely open. Necessary medication is

The hotel's restaurant is the only choice. You can buy the locally produced pide and some snacks in the supermarkets.

Drink

Some alcoholic beverages available at the hotel, the most important being the Efes beer.
