Kaçanik

Kaçanik/Kačanik, or Kaçaniku, in Kosovo, is a city of peace and quite, its houses with pointed red roofs being scattered along the verdant mountain slopes.

Kaçanik is the first major Kosovar town en route when coming from North Macedonia, except for the border village of Hani i Elezit/Elez Han.b

Get in

The best way to get to Kaçanik is by bus from Pristina. You can also catch a bus from Skopje. Most bus companies that run from Istanbul to Pristina continue onward and terminate in Kaçanik. There are several direct buses from Belgrade (7hours, 1 day bus & 2 night busses, run by Kosovo Albanian companies, cost about 10Euro, stops depending on the route in Niš or Kruševac, Pristina and other towns on the road, information dates from February 2005). Additionally, on a very questionable road through the mountains you can arrive from Tirana.

You can reach Kaçanik from Pristina/ Ferizaj and Hani I Elezit by train. The train runs two times a day to both directions.

Taxis are driving you for 5 € from Ferizaj to Kaçanik. You meet the drivers at the bus stop/ train station in Ferizaj. Taxi from Skopje is around 10 €.

From the bus station everything is within walking distance. The community of Kaçanik (kaçanikas, kachanikas) is very kind and pleasant, so don't miss it, visit this beauty and peace city!

Visit the mosque Koxha Sinan Pasha. It is one of the oldest buildings in the town. The mosque is located near the bus station and bridge (south). Take a walk at the river.

Don't miss a walk over the promenade in the evening! All citizens of the town - doesn't matter if young or old - are strolling there in the evenings. Talk a walk - you won't forget it!

You can take a trip with the car to Ivajë and Shtraza. The landscape around the two small villages is beautiful.

Ask in a local bar/ caffe for hiking tours. Many locals go for hiking every sunday. The sunday-hiking-tours are a tradition in Kaçanik.

gollark: People don't seem to care about causing me to suffer in guessing because I ignore whatever everyone says and write them in 4.7 minutes narrowly before the deadline.
gollark: My entry is Macron, by the way. It just might not be obvious yet.
gollark: You make Macron.
gollark: What are the big blobs anyway? I never really got round to looking at the submissions in detail.
gollark: As ever, my guesses will be done at the last minute but be oddly insightful.
