Johanna

Understand

Johanna is a small rural community just 10 minutes east of the town of Lavers Hill. Johanna Beach is about 2 kilometres long and is popular with anglers and surfers. It is not recommended for swimming as it often has huge waves and rips are dangerous. It is also home to one of the most endangered birds in the world - the Hooded Plover. Johanna is located at the halfway mark of both the Great Ocean Road and the Great Ocean Walk. It is a favourite location for both domestic and international visitors to the region as there is no lighting in the valley whatsoever. On a clear night the Heavens are awash with stars of the Milky Way. Once a thriving milking area, Johanna now has only one working farm left. Tourism has now taken over and the region is host to some unique accommodation venues.
