By plane

The nearest airport is in Lilabari in Assam, which is nearly 67 km (42 mi) away. This airport is well connected by flights from Guwahati. Pawan Hans provides helicopter facility between Itanagar and Guwahati, thrice a week.

By bus

Overnight super express buses connect Itanagar with Guwahati and takes about 12 hours. Arunachal State Transport buses connect Itanagar with other North East cities in India.

By train

Harmuti in Assam is the nearest railhead, which is nearly 33 km (21 mi) away. Taxi services from the railway station to Itanagar charges ₹500-600. Harmuti is well connected with North East railway stations.

Inner Line Permit

Before you enter Arunachal Pradesh you need to get an inner line permit either from Arunachal Bhavan located at New Delhi or in Kolkata. There is a checkpost at the Assam Arunachal Border in Bandardowa where you need to show the permit and explain your reason for travelling. Foreign tourists too need to get this permit before they can enter in the city.
