Insurance

Various policies of insurance are offered to travellers:

  • Travel insurance usually provides some level of medical insurance when abroad; this is commonly packaged with trip cancellation or theft coverage.
  • Motorists may need additional liability insurance when travelling abroad by motorcar. Membership in an automobile club may also provide roadside assistance if a vehicle breaks down while travelling. See tips for road trips.
  • Rental car or hire car firms usually offer a "collision damage waiver" at additional cost, which is not insurance but has some insurance-like characteristics. Some payment cards may also bundle coverage for damage due to rental car collisions.
