- Collect fossils. About two miles southeast of Hillsboro late Mississippian fossils preserved in rocks from the Greenbrier Group can be recovered from the bed of Locust Creek. Most of the fossils here are horn corals belonging to the genus Acrocyathus, some of which are actually slightly translucent. Other local fossils include brachiopods and crinoids.
