Las Vegas/Henderson and East

Henderson is the second largest city in Nevada. In recent years, the border between Henderson and Las Vegas has become virtually nonexistent - one city butts up against the other. This article indeed doesn't only cover Henderson but also Las Vegas east of the Strip.

Understand

One area of Henderson, Green Valley, was the first master planned community in the state.

Get in

By car

From Arizona, Boulder City, Lake Mead or Lake Las Vegas

If you came from Boulder City or Arizona, you can either take US 93 or Route 166, Route 166 is Lakeshore Drive and is going to change into State Route 564 once, you are not overlapping with Route 147 anymore. Or in US 93, it will change into a freeway as soon as you pass the Railroad Pass Hotel & Casino. If you came from Lake Mead or Lake Las Vegas, get on SR 564 and still continue until you enter Henderson. If took U.S 93, you will have to pass through Boulder City, and never take the exit after crossing over Veterans Memorial Dr intersection. It will head to Searchlight and Needles. And, then, once you get, it will change into an overlapping I-515, and, take any exit you want, this includes Wagonwheel Dr/Nevada State Dr, Boulder Hwy, Horizon Dr, College Dr, or any exit, as long is not on I-215.

From Central Las Vegas

Get on I-515, or I-215, or whatever road you take to get to Henderson Drive. And to enter Central Henderson via I-515, take exit 61 to Lake Mead. And on I-215, none, Continue till end of freeway.

From N. Las Vegas

Get on I-15, and then get on I-515 or I-215, do the same as Central Las Vegas.

By plane

🌍 Henderson Executive Airport (HSH  IATA) is the town's main airport, acting primarily as a reliever airport for the much busier 🌍 McCarran International Airport (LAS IATA).

  • UNLV Rebels, ☎ +1 702 739-FANS (3267). The athletic teams of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, better known as UNLV, are popular in the area. The Rebels are members of the Mountain West Conference, which has been expanding in recent years and now has 12 members for football and 11 members for other sports. The most famous UNLV team is the men's basketball team, known as the "Runnin' Rebels"; though not as strong as in their heyday from the late 1970s through the early 1990s, they remain solidly competitive and very popular. Most of the school's sports venues are on campus, but the football team plays at Sam Boyd Stadium in the suburb of Whitney, well to the east of campus, and will join the relocated Las Vegas Raiders at that team's new stadium just west of I-15 in 2020. The central ticket office for all UNLV sports is at the Thomas & Mack Center, home to men's basketball.
  • Mountain West Conference basketball tournaments, Thomas & Mack Center. Of the four NCAA Division I conferences that hold their men's and women's basketball tournaments in the Las Vegas area, the MW is the only one that holds said events in this part of town. The MW's men's and women's teams converge on the Thomas & Mack Center every March to determine the teams that will receive the league's automatic berths in the NCAA men's and women's tournaments.
  • 🌍 National Finals Rodeo, Thomas & Mack Center. The season-ending event of the annual Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association circuit is held over 10 days in December just off the Strip at the Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus.
  • 🌍 USA Sevens, Sam Boyd Stadium. From an international perspective, this may be the city's most prominent sporting eventβ€”at least among those who do not consider poker to be a sport. The "Sevens" refers to rugby sevens, a variant of rugby union played on a full-sized field but with seven players a side instead of 15. The USA Sevens, which Vegas has hosted since 2010, is part of the World Rugby Sevens Series, an annual circuit of 10 events for national men's rugby sevens teams. The event also included a women's tournament in the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series for national women's teams in 2017, but the women's version was not held in 2017–18 and has since moved to Denver. Games are very fast-pacedβ€”each half lasts only 7 minutes, as opposed to 40 minutes in the full version of rugby union. This allows many games to be played in a day, and a full tournament to be completed in a weekend. The event, held at Sam Boyd Stadium in the first weekend of March, features 16 men's national teams, including the U.S., and encourages a festival atmosphere. If you're so inclined, it can be a great opportunity to meet people from other parts of the world.

Gambling

If you win...

Chances are that, if you win it big in Henderson and you are not a U.S. citizen your winnings will be subject to a 30% withholding tax from the Internal Revenue Service. That $10,000 slot winning can dwindle quite quickly if that is taken off the top. Not to worry though you can reclaim your gambling winnings tax through a 1042-S form. You should get this from the casino so don't lose it: it is your starting ticket to getting your gambling winnings back.

There are many casinos of varying sizes throughout the Henderson Area and gambling is a popular pastime. The casinos range from the upscale Green Valley Ranch to smaller, more intimate "locals" establishments.

The idea of open-air shopping in the summer in the desert might seem crazy at first, but an extensive network of trees, shadow alleys and water sprayers let you actually enjoy sunny afternoons outside. All shops and restaurants here have their own, distinguished one- or two-story houses. The mall centers around a square featuring trees, ice-cream and coffee stands and benches to rest.

gollark: Except the dictator(s).
gollark: I find it hard to assume that any government actually has a coherent plan in mind, but somehow it seems to me unlikely that this sort of system of "let's monitor everything everyone says and does and have no transparency about it" is actually for anyone else's good.
gollark: i.e. "put security holes in your products but they're not actually allowed to be 'systemic weaknesses' and also you're not allowed to tell anyone".
gollark: No, they passed that stupid "Assistance and Access" law.
gollark: Well, the whole thing of "let's GET RID OF ENCRYPTION we're so smart TERRORISTS" is really a political issue.
