Harrietville is the last stop for petrol before the ascent to Mount Hotham and Dinner Plain, since fuel is not available on the mountain, although it will be slightly cheaper if you remember to re-fuel in Bright:

  • Harrietville General Store, The Great Alpine Road, +61-3-5759-2553. The General Store has a petrol pump out the front, regular unleaded only. It also has basic supplies.

If travelling into the mountains past Harrietville towards Mount Hotham, you will be required to carry fitting snow chains in winter. These are available for hire in Harrietville:

  • Hoys Harrietville, Main Street (Just over the school bridge), +61-3-5759-2658. Hoys Harrietville has chains for hire, as well as ski clothing and ski and snowboard equipment. If you hire chains here, they will give you a receipt that entitles you to a 20% discount when hiring equipment form Hoys in Mount Hotham or Dinner Plain. It can be a good idea to pick up your clothing and apres boots here though.
