Goliad
Goliad is one of the oldest towns in Texas. There are the remains of 1 Spanish mission, a restored mission Espiritu Santo, and state park (on the river), and the wonderfully restored Presidio de La Bahia. Here is where occurred the infamous Goliad Massacre during the Texas war for independence from Mexico.
Located on the San Antonio River, it is also near the Gulf of Mexico and the resort town of Rockport. There is a beautiful and historic town square with shops and cafes and the restored county courthouse. There are several restaurants and a new Best Western and other lodgings.
