Fortune

Fortune is in Southern Newfoundland, on the northern shore of the Burin Peninsula.

Understand

Fortune is a town of about 1400 inhabitants with fishery as the biggest industry. For travellers it's most notable for the passenger ferries to Saint Pierre and Miquelon.

Get in

By car

Driving (or hitchhiking) is probably the only way in from elsewhere in Canada. Fortune is on Highway 220, about 200 km from the Trans-Canada Highway.

By boat

There are ferries both from Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Unlike to and from the rest of Canada, bringing a car is not an option as the ferries take only passengers and bikes. The ferries have the capability to take cars, but there is no port infrastructure to drive on and off them.

The closest airport is in Saint-Pierre, and almost all flights there are from Canadian destinations, but this means exiting and entering Canada anew. In Canada, the closest airports are in Gander and St. John's.

Get around

Walk, bike or drive.
