Foča

Foča is a city on the bank of the Drina river in the south-east of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Serbian part of the country.

Not to be confused with Foça in Turkey.

Do

Foča is a good base to explore nature from. For example, to go rafting on the Tara river, running through the deepest canyon in Europe, or go hiking through Perućica forest, one of the last ancient forest left on the continent, with trees measuring up to 60 meters. Also a challenge is to try to climb the Maglić mountain, right on the border with Montenegro. Maglić ("fog") is the highest peak of BiH, and besides with a guide you probably need two days to reach the peak.

• 🌍 Rafting Tara (Tara river rafting), Vuka Karadžića 14, Foča, ☎ [phone], e-mail: [e-mail]. A category 4 white water river, the Tara is a real challenge for adventurers and nature lovers. In March, April and May, high water levels are to be expected. A very demanding tour requiring physical preparation. Water temperatures vary between 5°C to 7°C. In June and July is the water calmer, allowing a medium-sized tour, so that children can go to rafting along. Physical preparation and experience are not necessary in the summer months. Water temperature ranges from 10°C to 12°C. In August, September and October, the water level are lowest. The tear of Europe, as they call the Tara Canyon, with a depth of 1.3 kilometers occupies the second place on the world list right behind the Grand Canyon. Crystal clear water and a rich flora and fauna along the 145-km Tara River were placed on the list of protected areas of UNESCO.
