Paved roads connect the locations in the North Star Borough. Always travel with an emergency kit. Be cautious of moose on the road, especially in the dark winter months.

Birch Hill Recreation Area is a Nordic skiing complex with 32 km of groomed trails.

Chena Lake Recreation Area has 2,100 acres. On the lake visitors can boat, fish and swim. On land activities include volleyball, horseshoes, and a playground.

Some cafes feature entrees cooked with reindeer or other local food. Their are also several choices for ethnic cuisine.

Drink

The area has 2 microbreweries, HooDoo Brewery and Silver Gulch Brewing and Bottling.
