The city offers many attractions for visitors. Eastside Centre is one of the largest sports centers in Illinois, and hosts many State events for junior high and high school. During the winter, the Festival of Lights is a major attraction, drawing in crowds from all over the state. It includes a parade with many floats covered in Christmas lights. The city is working on building a new downtown with a large retail space. There is a Bass Pro Shop, and an Embassy Suites hotel has opened by the river.
