East Bridgewater

East Bridgewater is a town in Massachusetts.

Understand

East Bridgewater, called “EB” by its residents, was established as its own town in 1823. It resides in southeastern Massachusetts, about forty minutes south of Boston. Brockton borders the town to the west and Bridgewater to the south. Taunton is about twenty minutes southwest. The results of elections show a pattern of liberal voting. For more information about the town, visit .

Get in

By plane, the closest airport is the Logan International Airport in Boston.

By train, there is an MBTA commuter rail station located in Bridgewater (85 Burrill Ave Bridgewater, MA 02324), next to Bridgewater State University.

By car, East Bridgewater is directly on Route 18, which spans from the Bridgewater border to the Whitman border. The easiest approach is to exit Route 24 in West Bridgewater and follow Route 106 to Route 18 north. Rt. 106 passes through town from the West Bridgewater border to the Halifax border.

Get around

East Bridgewater has little in the way of public transportation. You’re better off travelling by car or bicycle. Bicycling from one end of town to the other would take no longer than an hour and a half.

See

There are no tourist attractions to see here. Stop by for a meal or a movie on the way to a larger destination.

Do

Viking Recreation Center, 607 Bedford Street, +1 508 378-9830. Open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 12pm-10pm, Tuesdays 9am-10pm, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays 9am-11pm. The recreation center features a bowling alley ($3.75 per game, $2.00 to rent shoes) and a video game arcade. The entertainment is cheap but the arcade is small.

East Bridgewater Cinema 6, 225 Bedford Street, +1 508 378-3010. Showings on weekdays start at 4:00pm and earlier on weekends. The theater is tiny, with five rooms. However, tickets are cheap, so this is a great choice when you want to see a movie but are short on funds and do not care about high-end visual and audio equipment, size, or seating. The theater’s weekly Rocky Horror Picture Show event was recently cancelled indefinitely, though formerly it was a popular ritual.

Buy

Almost every business in town is a restaurant or convenience store. For basic needs while on the road, there is a CVS at 225 Bedford Street, +1 508 378-1370, near the center of town. For bargain-hunters, there is also an Ocean State Job Lot next to it, +1 508 350-9815, where you can find most of the same items at a lower cost.

Eat

  • Pier 18 Seafood & Grille, 205 Bedford St (Route 18), +1 508-378-1378. M-Sa 7AM-8PM, F 7AM-9PM, Su 7AM-12noon. Family owned and operated. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, specializing in local seafood. Full liquor, and handicap access with plenty of parking. Daily specials.

Johnny D’s Breakfast Place, 31 Central Street, +1 508 378-4702. Open 5:00am to 12:00pm. This is a small diner that serves great breakfast food at average prices (though there is a discount before 7:00am). It is a favorite of locals both young and old.

Mockingbird Restaurant & Martini Lounge, 838 North Bedford Street, +1 508 378-4911. Open Wednesday and Thursday 4:30pm-9:00pm, Friday and Saturday 4:30pm-10:00pm, and Sunday 4:00pm-9:00pm. Closed Monday and Tuesday. If you’re in the mood for Italian food (and/or martinis), this is the place to go in East Bridgewater. It has a slightly more formal atmosphere than Pier 18 but its prices are higher.

Deng’s Garden, 225 Bedford Street, +1 508 378-3155. Open Sunday-Thursday 2:00pm-10:30pm, Friday-Saturday 2:00pm-11:30pm. This is the only local Chinese, Polynesian, and Mandarin restaurant, located in the same plaza as CVS, Ocean State Job Lot, and the movie theater mentioned above, conveniently close to the town center. Most meals will cost about $10 per person.

Drink

East Bridgewater does not have a club open to the public or a business that specializes as a bar. Many restaurants have a bar at them or serve alcohol at the tables, however. For Martini enthusiasts, see the entry on the Mockingbird above.

Sleep

East Bridgewater does not have any hotels, motels, etc. to accommodate a traveler overnight.

Connect

There are no internet cafés or other places to pay for internet access. However, the East Bridgewater Public Library, 32 Union Street, +1 508 378-1616, would be a good place to access a computer. It is located near the center of town, and Rt. 18 passes by it.

Go next

Heading southwest will bring you to the city of Taunton. North will lead to Boston. I-495 and MA-24 are accessed by Bridgewater, to the south. Plymouth is to the east.
