The town prides itself on retaining a small town character alongside accessibility to a major metropolis. Additionally, the downtown is situated along the historic Old National Road and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Get in

Driving, the main route in and out is the Old National Road, known as US 40. This east–west backbone of the old highway system used to run coast to coast and can still take you out to the town's namesake of Cumberland, Maryland. If you're in Indianapolis, the local bus system IndyGo has a route to deliver you to Cumberland. You can reach the town just south of I-70 and close to Indianapolis' beltway loop I-465.

Get around

The town is small enough to walk or bike easily. Public transport is not an option.

See

There are four parks: National Road Park, Honors Park, Lions Park, and Wayburn St. Pocket Park. Throughout much of the year, you can play pick-up basketball at Lions and National Road Parks. Additionally, Lions has a tennis court and baseball diamond. Both have shelters, gazebos, and play equipment for children.

Do

If you like an easy walk, go along the Cumberland Pennsy Trail. An annual celebration of Cumberland's citizens is held in Honors Park. The Cumberland Arts Goes to Market festival was founded in 2009 to merge the local arts community with the farmers market; it is held in late summer. The Market is open on Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings from May through October.
