Randolph is a town and hamlet in Cattaraugus County, New York. Just to the east, and also covered in this article, is the hamlet of East Randolph.

By car

Take Exit 16 off the Southern Tier Expressway (I-86), turn east on Main Street past the 7-Eleven and Mobil gas station, and you'll soon find yourself right in the middle of downtown Randolph. Keep going for about a mile and a half (1km) past the center of town and voilΓ , you're in East Randolph.

By plane

The nearest airport with scheduled flights is Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

By bus

Randolph is located on Coach USA's Jamestown-Olean line:

  • Eastbound buses depart daily at 6:45AM and 4:45PM from the Jamestown Gateway Train Station at 217 W. 2nd St. in Jamestown, arriving in Randolph roughly half an hour later.
  • Westbound buses depart daily at 9AM and 6:30PM from the parking lot of the Olean Center Mall at 400 N. Union St. in Olean, passing through Salamanca, Little Valley, and various points in between and arriving in Randolph roughly an hour and 10 minutes later.

(about 6 miles/9.5 km south of the center of Randolph via Pine Hill and Pierce Run Roads), ☎ +1 716-372-0645. 1,149 acres (465 ha) of conifer forest (mostly pine, larch and spruce) crisscrossed with a network of trails that also extends into neighboring South Valley State Forest, which are open year-round for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and snowmobiling. Pine Hill State Forest is also open to hunters and trappers, and fishing is available on two small ponds in the eastern part of the forest. Free.

An onsite bar and restaurant provides a casual atmosphere for golfers who find themselves hungry after their game, and there's also a pro shop for the convenience of those who want to stock up on essentials like extra tees or balls. 2018 rates: weekdays $10/$15 for 9/18 holes; weekends $13/$23 for 9/18 holes; cart fees $8/$13 per person for 9/18 holes; $22 for 18 holes plus cart service on weekdays before 2PM for seniors 60 and over.

There's no shortage of kitschy country diners around these parts, but R&M really takes that aesthetic to another level: if you're lucky, they'll seat you in the authentic Amish buggy right in the middle of the dining room, fitted with a booth and chairs inside! There's a selection of Amish-made crafts for sale, too. Food-wise, it's classic downhome American cuisine through and through. Service is slow, but usually friendly.

  • Pine Hill State Forest. Backcountry campsites are offered here free on a first-come, first-served basis β€” check the events schedule, because you may be out of luck if you come during one of the occasional horseback-riding events that the forest occasionally attracts. Leave-no-trace principles apply.

Pet-friendly campground with 150 electrified sites for tents and RVs, 6 cabins, and a whole host of amenities: a playground, volleyball and basketball courts, a game room, a camp store with firewood and supplies, a heated outdoor swimming pool (open Memorial Day through Labor Day), onsite hiking trails, even free WiFi. Two standard guest rooms and two suites boast individual decorative themes and various amenities: standard rooms contain a queen- or king-size bed with TV, coffee maker, alarm clock, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, and a chair and work space; the first-floor king-bed suite contains all of the above plus an additional TV, a sofa that converts to an additional queen-size bed, and kitchenette with sink, mini-fridge, microwave, and cupboards stocked with plates, glasses, and silverware. The kitchenette in the second-floor luxury suite upgrades the mini-fridge to a full-size one and adds a stove, pots and pans, and a four-seat dining room table, plus there's a whirlpool tub in the bathroom and a padded reclining chair to go with the futon and bed.
