Scalloway is a town in Shetland Islands.

Scalloway, or SkΓ‘lavΓ‘gr (literally "bay with the large house(s)") as it was known in Old Norse, is the largest settlement on the north coast of "Mainland" island of Shetland. Before the capital was moved to Lerwick in 1708, Scalloway was the capital of Shetland Islands.

Bus no. 4 goes between Lerwick and Scalloway and takes about 25min (see timetable). Tickets cost Β£1.60.

  • 🌍 Scalloway Castle, ☎ +44 1856 841815. The remains of Scalloway Castle, the former living quarters of Earl Patrick Stewart. This is the major attraction for most tourists. The key to the castle is available from the Scalloway Museum (opposite) during normal opening hours, and from the Scalloway Hotel when it is open.
  • 🌍 Scalloway Museum, Castle Street, ☎ +44 1595 880734. May-Sep: M-Sa 11:00-16:00, Su 14:00-16:00. Oct-Apr: closed. Small museum covering the history of Scalloway.
  • 🌍 The Shetland Bus, Main St.. A memorial to those involved in The Shetland Bus, an operation during World War II to evacuate Norwegians from their threatened home country. The history is interesting, but the monument itself is very low-key.
  • 🌍 Tingwall Loch.
