Ballyragget

Ballyragget (Irish: Béal Atha Raghad meaning Mouth of Ragget's Ford) is a town in north County Kilkenny. It has a population of 1,450. The town is beside the river Nore.

It is named after Richard Le Ragget, a Norman who owned the land around the town in the 13th century.

Ballyragget is very small, and easy to walk around.

See

  • Ormond Castle (Ballyragget Castle). The ruins of a large medieval keep build in 1495 is found the town. The keep is surrounded by walls and a 4 round turrets. There is also a wishing chair.
  • Catholic Church (In the town's square).
  • Donoughmore Cemetery and ruins. Visit the ruins of an old church that was founded by St. Patrick.
