Čičmany

Čičmany (German Zimmermannshau, Hungarian Csicsmán) is a folks village in Central Slovakia.

Understand

Čičmany is one of the few folk villages which remain intact in Central Europe. It represents a local vernacular style of architecture characterized by the use of dark wood and its white ornamentation in floral patterns similar to gingerbread. This is still a living tradition and such houses are drawn over again and again.

Get in

The is a sparse bus connection from Rajecke Teplice. Otherwise it is a 30-40 minutes drive from Žilina.

Get around

The village is small and manageable on foot.

The village main attraction is its folk architecture. There are two souvenir shops vending local crafts. It is also possible to visit the inside of two of the houses.
