Yazmin Aziz

Yazmin Aziz (born 10 September 2001) is a Malaysian Filipino singer and songwriter known for her viral duet [1] with current Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. Yazmin recently released her first English single on Spotify, Heart & Soul, and is also known for her Malay single, Lihatlah.[2]. She is also currently TFC Asia Pacific's News Correspondent [3].

Life and career

Yazmin Aziz's father is of Filipino ethnic origin and is based in Canada, and her mother is from Malaysia. Yazmin currently lives with her mother, stepfather, and her two younger sisters.

Yazmin started her career as a child model of Pureen Baby Bath, and competed in her first dance competition at the age of 5. At elementary school, Yazmin sang and led the school choir as well as the school's Music Club. Yazmin also joined various competitions including the Maybank Talent Competition and the Ikea Talent Competition.

At the age of 12, Yazmin performed in front of more than 2,000 people for the Pamaskong Handog 2014 [4] hosted by Embassy of the Philippines, Kuala Lumpur with Manila-based artists, such as singer-actress Regine Velasquez, actor-host Derek Ramsay and singer Michael Pangilinan as well as the Malaysia-based Filipino talent, singer-songwriter Mark Adam.

Yazmin is currently pursuing a Diploma in Communication from HELP University, Malaysia. Yazmin also holds a Grade 5 (with distinction) in Vocal awarded by the Australian Guild of Music [5] and a Grade 3 in Music Theory awarded by ABRSM, Royal Schools of Music.[6]

Yazmin also took up theatre workshops from KLPAC and was cast in her first Musical production POP! The Musical. She starred as "Diana" in an award-winning musical called The Fortunettes, a retro musical. [7]

Apart from being a singer and actress, Yazmin also enjoys songwriting, hosting, and dancing.

Personal life

Yazmin's previous relationship was with Filipino artist, Michael Pacquaio, son of Filipino professional boxer and Senator of the Phillippines Manny Pacquiao. Their relationship was tagged by fans as "YazChael". The couple went viral and made headlines in the Philippines [8] and have also done media appearances together.[9] Their relationship ended in April 2019.[10]

Yazmin's latest single was released on Spotify and other digital platforms. The single is produced by Libyan Producer and Musician, Debani. Heart & Soul is produced by Homeworkz Music, an Independent Record label in the Philippines owned by Philippines' King of R&B, , whom incidentally met Yazmin backstage when they both were invited to perform in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the Pamaskong Handog Concert 2015.

Yazmin's first single was a song released on Spotify and other digital platforms in 2017 [11]. Yazmin composed and wrote Lihatlah in English and was adapted in Bahasa Malaysia by known lyricist, M. Zulkifli Abdul Jalil. Lihatlah was co-composed and produced by Yazmin's Vocal Coach, Vince Chong. The song was distributed by Yazmin's previous management, Hurr.TV and the official music video of Lihatlah is available on the YouTube channel of Warner Music Malaysia.

Yazmin's biggest achievement was when she was awarded Outstanding Asian Teen Performing Artist 2019 during the 21st World-Class Excellence Award held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia [12].
