Y. S. Sharmila

Yeduguri Sandinti Sharmila (born 17 December 1973), also known as Sharmila, is the younger sister of 17th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy and the daughter of Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Y. S. Vijayamma. She is the current party convener of the YSR Congress Party.[1]

Public life

YS. Sharmila Reddy made headlines after she took up campaigning on behalf of the YSR Congress Party along with her mother Y. S. Vijayamma, in the absence of her elder brother Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy from June 2012 in Andhra Pradesh. The YSR Congress Party then won 15 of the 18 assembly seats and 1 of 1 Parliament seat for which the by-elections were held.[2]

Maro Praja Prasthanam

Sharmila began her 3000km walkathon at Idupulapaya in Kadapa district on 18 Oct 2012 .[3] She completed it on 4 August 2013 in Ichchapuram. She toured 14 districts as part of the walkathon.[4]

Praja Theerpu - Bye Bye Babu

Before the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, YS Sharmila undertook an 11-day bus Yatra across Andhra Pradesh in branded buses with a “Bye Bye Babu” Timer Clock. [5]. The campaign under the name “Praja Theerpu - Bye Bye Babu” covered 1553km and 39 public addresses. She also handed out over 20,000 autographed caps.

Personal life

Y. S. Sharmila Reddy was born into a Christian political-business family on 17 December 1973 in Pulivendula to Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Y. S. Vijayamma. Her husband Anil Kumar M. is an Indian-Telugu evangelist and founder of Anil World Evangelism. The couple has two children named Raja and Anjali. Sharmila has an elder brother Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who is the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
