The site is named for Simon William Wible, who was a developer that managed community projects in the area. In 1890, Wible became interested in horticulture and founded the Wible Orchard and Vineyard Company. He was also responsible, along with other community leaders, for opening the Bank of Bakersfield; Wible was the first president of the bank and served in that capacity until his death.[2]
