On July 8, 2012, while traveling alongside the Van's Warped Tour 2012, the band's vehicle blew a tire, causing the driver to lose control of the car. This resulted in a rollover. Zach Booher was pronounced dead on the scene, and Steven Rouk sustained serious injuries, though he is not in life-threatening condition. The public should be informed in the next couple of days while the accident is under investigation.
History
Formation (2010)
While We're Up was formed in the spring of 2010 by Zach Booher and Steven Rouk, who met at Arizona State University while both were working as residential assistants in the dormitories. Rouk had locked himself out of his room on the first night of training, and Booher came to help him. They learned that they shared similar musical taste, and began playing together in their spare time or when they had RA duty together.[2] Rouk then played a show with "Win The Scene", a band Booher was in at the time, and the band broke up soon after. Within a couple of months, the pair had decided to form a band together, and made plans to record songs over the next summer.
Every Moment independent release (2011–present)
During the summer of 2010, While We're Up recorded their debut album Every Moment with Adam Teller at Avalon Studios. After doing final recording and mixing touches throughout the rest of 2010, Every Moment was released on CD, iTunes and Amazon on February 14, 2011.
Zach Booher died July 8, 2012 in a fatal rollover accident while in the band's vehicle.[3] He was pronounced dead at the scene, though the driver of the vehicle and Steven made it out with non-life-threatening injuries. Since then, Steven has said that he will no longer release music as While We're Up, since there was no point in continuing the band without Zach, but will continue releasing music nonetheless.
Musical style
While We're Up was an acoustic rock duo. Their record Every Moment demonstrates a variety of different styles, most notably a power pop or pop punk influence. They list Brand New, All Time Low, Billy Joel, Yellowcard, Relient K, and "moderate doses of hip hop" as musical influences.[4]
