Early life and education
Vladislav Doronin was born on November 7, 1962 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He graduated from the Moscow Lomonosov State University. In 1991, he launched the ‘Capital Group’.[5]
Business career
In 1985, he relocated to Geneva and then to Zug, where he worked under Marc Rich.[6] Doronin started ‘Capital Group’ in 1991 as a commodity trading company.[5] In 1993, Capital Group entered the Moscow commercial real estate market with class A offices and retail projects. Over time, its portfolio expanded with deluxe and business class residential developments. Capital Group has built up its portfolio to include 71 high-end residential and commercial projects with a total of 7 million square meters of space.[7]
In February 2014, Vladislav Doronin became Aman Group's majority owner.[8] The Aman Group is the holding company of Aman Resorts, a collection of international luxury resorts. In July 2014, Doronin and a minor shareholder were involved in a legal dispute regarding leadership of the group. As of September 2014, that dispute was still not fully resolved.[9] In March 2016, the High Court in London confirmed that a settlement had been reached between Doronin and KPMG, liquidators for Amanat's PHRL company.[10] The new holding company of the luxury hotel chain is called AH Overseas Ltd.[11] As a result of the settlement, Doronin has full control over Aman Resorts.[12][13]
In April 2015, Vladislav Doronin purchased floors 4-24 of the Crown Building on Fifth Avenue in New York for $500 million.[14] In October 2017, Aman announced that the property would be the new location for Aman New York, the company's second urban destination after Aman Tokyo[15]. Aman New York will be a condo and hotel combination, including 20 condos ranging in size from 1,140-square feet to a 14,000-square-foot penthouse which will sell for over $100 million[16].
Doronin's real estate development company OKO Group announced in March 2016 a luxury residential development of a 649-foot, 57-story tower, Missoni Baia, in collaboration with Italian fashion house Missoni[17]. The building's architect is Hani Rashid of Asymptote Architecture, the project's landscaping is by Swiss landscape architect Enzo Enea, and the interiors were designed by New York-based Paris Forino[18][19].
In October 2016, Doronin and OKO Group announced that they had hired Adrian Smith+Gordon Gill Architecture to design a condo tower in Miami's Brickell neighborhood[20].
Doronin owned the publishing rights in Germany and Russia to Interview magazine, the style magazine founded by Andy Warhol.[21]
In 2020, construction began on the second tallest office building in Miami-Dade, 830 Brickell. OKO Group and Cain International are creating this project together, which is a 57 story office tower and the first new office skyscraper built in Miami in over a decade.[22] The project is designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture with interior designs by Iosa Ghini Associati.[22] A second partnership between OKO Group and Cain International in Miami is also taking place with Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, with the development of a 47-story residential tower called Una on the Brickell Waterfront.[23]
Personal life
Doronin has an apartment in Capital City, a residential complex he developed in Moscow in 2003. His residence is a penthouse designed by the Italian architect Massimo Iosa Ghini. He also owns a private residence, Capital Hill Residence, outside of Moscow, the only private residence designed by architect Zaha Hadid.[24] Doronin was married to Ekaterina Doronina from 1988 until 2009. He was in a relationship with English supermodel Naomi Campbell from 2008 until 2013.[25]
Doronin is the father of 4 children with his ex-wife Ekaterina Doronina and partner Kristina Romanova, respectively.
Awards and recognition
In August 2016, Doronin was included in Surface Magazine’s Power 100 list of prominent individuals, including 15 in real estate and hospitality.[24]
According to Building.ru Doronin is one of the top ten most professional developers in Russia.[26] His OKO Tower in central Moscow is 1,160 feet high, making it Europe’s tallest completed skyscraper.[27] Doronin was acknowledged as the head of the list of “Top 1000 Russian Managers Rating 2011,” in the category of Development.[28] Doronin was named one of the “Kings of Russian Real Estate” by Forbes in 2014.[29] In 2015, the New York Post recognized Doronin on their list of "The 20 biggest power players in New York City real estate."[30]
