Virginia Kraft Payson

Virginia Kraft Payson was an American horse breeder, big-game hunter, and journalist (writing as Virginia Kraft) who wrote for Sports Illustrated from its first issue for 26 years.[1] She was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by Siena College.[2]

Although Kraft always wrote under her maiden name; her married name came from her husband, Charles Shipman Payson, from whom she inherited $70 million dollars upon his death.[3]
