Victor Karl Hermann Kohlschmidt

Victor Karl Hermann Kohlschmidt (born August 3, 1862) was a Russian major general, hero of the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905, participant in the First World War and the Civil War.

Biography

Born in St. Petersburg in a family of Baltic Germans of the Evangelical Lutheran faith.

He received his primary education in Saint Peter's School (Saint Petersburg) (1873-1878). He entered service on September 14, 1879 as a cadet of the 1st Pavlovsk Military School, which he graduated in 1881 and was released as second lieutenant of the St. Petersburg Grenadier Regiment.

Since August 30, 1884 he is a lieutenant. He commanded a company (1888-1891); from April 9, 1889 - captain of staff.

In 1894 he graduated from the 1st category at the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff. Since April 17, 1894 - captain. He served as an assistant to the senior adjutant of the headquarters of the Warsaw Military District; since November 26, 1894 - lieutenant colonel.

Since 1898 - the headquarters officer for assignments at the headquarters of the Amur Military District; served as commissar in the border guard of the Amur Region (1900-1902). In the years 1900-1901 he participated in hostilities during the suppression of the "boxing uprising" in China.

He received the rank of colonel on April 14, 1902; he commanded a battalion in the 96th Omsk Infantry Regiment, then until February 3, 1903 he was the head officer under the command of the 56th Infantry Reserve Brigade.

From February 3, 1903 to March 11, 1905, he was chief of staff of the 22nd Infantry Division. In March 1905 he was wounded and was appointed chief of staff of the 1st Infantry Siberian Division, but already in August he was transferred as chief of staff of the 10th East Siberian Rifle Division; from January 17, 1906 - the chief of staff of the 7th Cavalry Division, and from November 4, 1906 - the commander of the 174th infantry regiment of the Romny.

Since June 15, 1910, V. B. Kolschmidt is the commander of the 47th Ukrainian Infantry Regiment. Since January 13, 1911, "for distinction," he received the rank of Major General and was appointed commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 17th Infantry Division. With the outbreak of World War I, Kolschmidt was appointed commander of the 17th Infantry Division.

Since June 21, 1915, Kolschmidt commanded the 63rd Infantry Division. After the surrender on August 20, 1915 of the New George Fortress, in the garrison of which the division was, he was in German captivity until June 24, 1916 - in the Osnabruck camp in Lower Saxony.

In 1918, V.B. Kolschmidt joined the Red Army (RKKA). He served at the headquarters of the Ukrainian and South-Western fronts. Since December 8, 1919 he taught at the 22 Kursk infantry courses. Since 1919, was listed in the lists of the General Staff of the Red Army; since May 1, 1921, he served as the head of the educational unit of the General Staff; in March 1923 he was indicated as a full-time teacher of the tactics of the 40th Kostroma infantry courses. His further fate is unknown.

Their son - engineer Viktor Viktorovich Kolshmidt (1901, St. Petersburg - 09/25/1957, Antwerp) - a participant in the civil war, after which he lived in Estonia; after 1945 - a citizen of Belgium, a member of the board of RNO; since 1930, married to Tatyana Nikolaevna Chebysheva (b. 1899).[1]
