Vasily Kirey

Vasily Kirey (1879 – 1942) was a Russian major general. Coronet General of the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic. Brother of Ivan Kirey, Colonel of the Russian Army and foreman of the Ukrainian People's Army.

Biography

Vasily Kirey was born in Baturin in 1879. He graduated from the Orenburg Neplyuyev cadet corps, then, in 1901, the Konstantinovsky artillery school, after which he served in the 42nd artillery brigade.

In 1904 he was transferred to the 3rd Guards rapid-firing artillery division. In 1906 he was enrolled as a supernumerary student at the Mikhailovsky Artillery Academy, after which he was promoted to captain on May 17, 1909. In 1910 - captain in the 33rd artillery brigade.

He began World War I as a battery commander. In 1916 he was promoted to colonel. He was awarded the St. George's Arms - for artillery training during the Brusilovsky offensive. Acting as the Commander of the 6th Field Heavy Artillery Brigade, on June 20, 1917, he was promoted to major general "for distinguishing himself in matters against the enemy" and approved in his post.

On July 7, 1917, he was appointed Acting Inspector of the 41st Army Corps; for artillery training during the July offensive on July 31, 1917, he was awarded the Order of St. George.

On September 9, 1917, he was appointed commander of the 23rd Army Corps of the Romanian Front.

In the Ukrainian army since September 1917. He served as chief of artillery of the Gaidamatsky kosh of Sloboda Ukraine. He was the chief of the Kiev defense headquarters in January 1918.

During the period of the Ukrainian Power, he was a member of the General Staff, was a member of the commission for the creation of military schools and academies, an artillery inspector of the 40th corps.

He did not recognize the authorities of the Directory and transferred to the Volunteer Army of General Denikin as chief of artillery supply. Until November 8, 1918 - the chief of artillery of the Drozdov division. In the Russian army, General Wrangel is the head of the Military Technical Department and a Wrangel referent for "Ukrainian affairs."[1]

Since September 1920 in exile. After a short stay in Yugoslavia, he entered the service in the Czechoslovak army. Last position - head of the 11th artillery division in the military district of Kosice (eastern Slovakia). Since September 1, 1938 he was retired. He died in Prague in 1942. He was buried in Prague at the Olshansky cemetery.
