History

Following Joey Jordison's split with Slipknot in late 2013, he opted to devote his time to a new project. Scar the Martyr, his side project which released one album before disbanding, was partially revived and rebranded as Vimic, with Jordison replacing vocalist Henry Derek Bonner with Kalen Chase, while keeping the previous project's remaining line-up unchanged. According to Jordison, Vimic had three songs immediately ready, at the time when he announced the band in an interview with Jose Mangin on Sirius XM on May 5, 2016. The first song, entitled "Simple Skeletons", was released along with the band's unveiling.[2] On May 16, they released a music video for another song, "She Sees Everything".[3] On June 3, they released a third song and music video, "My Fate".[4] The band immediately began touring in 2016 as a 5-piece, as Kris Norris departed the band immediately after the release of "Simple Skeletons". However, in fall 2016 the band cancelled the UK leg for undisclosed reasons. Later that winter, they announced Steve Marshall as their new second guitarist, filling in the role vacated by Kris Norris.

Their debut album, Open Your Omen, was scheduled to be released in 2019.[5] Shortly after releasing their debut song, former Scar the Martyr guitarist Kris Norris wrote on his Facebook page that he wrote "Simple Skeletons" and that he had also left the band after that single.[6]

In mid-2017, images surfaced of Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine working in the studio with Jordison, fueling speculation that he was somehow involved with the album's recording. In October 2017, it was finally revealed that Mustaine is featured on new song "Fail Me (My Temple)", which was released along with the announcement that Open Your Omen would now be released via UMe/T-Boy Records on an as-yet-unconfirmed date in 2019.[7] In the announcement, it was also confirmed that the album was produced by Jordison and Kato Khandwala with mixing and mastering partially overseen by Mustaine. However, activity ground to a halt throughout 2018 with Jordison's commitments to Sinsaenum, Konkiel's work with Bad Wolves and Simon forming Imonolith, as well as the death of Khandwala.[8]
