Umaru Nagwamatse

Umaru Nagwamatse Dan Aba Bakar (c.1806 - 1876) was a prince from Sokoto caliph, Nigeria traditional ruler as Sarkin Sudan and fouder of Kontagora Emirate.

Life

Nagwamatse founded and conquer the Kontagora Emirate in 1864 and became the ruler of the emirate known as Sarkin Sudan 'Kings of Blacks' together with his two sons and was first among ruler in north region Nigeria to become King from Sokoto Fulani ruling house, he was the tenth son of Sultane Abubakar Atiku from Dan Fodio ruling house of Sokoto.[1][2][3]

Rijiyar Nagwamatse

Nagwamatse was the prince from Sokoto caliphs that scratch his right finger under a tree in Kontogora a miracle that water gushed out from the earth and in history now the exact spot Rijiyar Nagwamatse means Nagwamatse well remains a water spot in the Kingdom, at the time he arrived at the emirate 1864 the water spot was were he used to performed ablution for 'Salat Asr' as of time the kingdom lack drinking water.[4]

Although the kingdom was entirely inhabited by the Kambari people which as of now reclaimed in Niger State and in the earlier 19 century the Kambari people left the kingdom due to civil war in Maginga Kingdom were they originally settlers of the there and now the Kingdom is headed by the ruling family of Umaru Nagwamatse.[5]
