Ulisses Braga Neto
Ulisses M. Braga Neto (born Feb 12 1971) is a Brazilian-American Electrical Engineer and is currently Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University. His main research areas are statistical pattern recognition, machine learning, signal and image processing, and systems biology. He has worked extensively in the field of error estimation for pattern recognition and machine learning, having published with Edward R. Dougherty the first book dedicated to this topic.[1] He also made contributions to the field of Mathematical morphology in signal and image processing.

Biography
Braga Neto was born in Recife, Brazil in 1971. He received the baccalaureate degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidade Federal de Pernambuco in 1992, and the Master's degree, also in Electrical Engineering, from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP) in 1994. He received an M.Sc. degree in Mathematical Sciences in 1998 and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering, in 1998 and 2002, respectively, from The Johns Hopkins University. He worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, under the supervision of Louise Strong and Edward R. Dougherty. He worked at the Recife regional center of the Fundação Oswaldo Cruz from 2004-2007. He moved back to the U.S. in 2007, when he became an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2013.
Work
Braga-Neto introduced, along with Edward R. Dougherty the notion of Bolstered Error Estimation.[2] He also invented the Boolean Kalman Filter [3] algorithm for partially-observed boolean dynamical systems (POBDS). In 2015, Braga Neto published, in collaboration with Edward R. Dougherty, the first book dedicated to the topic of error estimation for pattern recognition and machine learning.[1] He also made contributions to the field of Mathematical Morphology in signal and image processing, particularly on the topic of image connectivity and connected operators.
