UK Chamber of Shipping

The UK Chamber of Shipping is the trade body for shipping in the United Kingdom, representing over 140 shipping companies. They are one of the principal members of the International Chamber of Shipping.[1] Their headquarters are in Park Street, London. The Chamber promotes British shipping around the world and often acts a source of maritime knowledge to the media; for example in 2015 the Chamber worked with ITV in the production of a Maritime Nation Television Programme and in 2016 reported on various matters concerning the training of Merchant Navy Officers.[2][3] The body is also responsible for working closely with the UK government and Maritime and Coastguard Agency; in 2014 the UK government's national Maritime Security strategy was unveiled at the Chamber.[4] The official publisher of the UK Chamber of Shipping is Witherby Seamanship.[5] The Merchant Navy Training Board is based at the UK Chamber's offices in London.[6]

History

The Chamber has its origins in 1878 when a national trade body for shipping was formed. The Chamber was granted a Royal Charter in 1920 and went through several names, being known as the General Council of British Shipping until 1992 when its current name was adopted.[7]

Presidents

The current President of the Chamber is Grahaeme Henderson.[12]

gollark: Interesting.
gollark: I thought of something like that, but you need to return to the actual game logic higher up the stack as you don't have the other participants' code.
gollark: Technically no, if you know all the other participants and their order.
gollark: I couldn't make it work properly, so I'm working on other things instead.
gollark: ```The "apiomemetics" strategy will be as follows:- if this is the first turn, fork process- if you are the parent process, wait for the child to terminate- if child, use a strategy and see how well it goes- at 100th turn (matches are AT LEAST this long), if child, send message to parent via shared memory and exit- repeat with different strategy- store best strategy against current opponent somewhere, use on all subsequent turns```
