History
Twinkl was founded by Jonathan Seaton and Susie Seaton (a former early years teacher) in February 2010, and launched on 24 March 2010.[8] While working as a teacher, Susie had difficulty sourcing materials for her lessons, which led the couple to begin creating their own resources and publishing these online. Twinkl now creates digital teaching materials for educators worldwide.[9] This includes materials for primary schools,[10] secondary schools, parents[11][12] home educators,[13] childminders, English as a second language, special educational needs and disabilities, adult education,[14] and international markets.[15]
Location
The company moved to its current HQ in Sheffield, England in 2014.[9] As of 2018, the company has over 600 team members in 15 locations around the world. In 2017, Twinkl opened a second office[16] in Wollongong, Australia. [17][18]
In 2019, Twinkl launched a startup accelerator called TwinklHive. This is based in Sheffield, UK.
Recognition and Achievements
In April 2018, Twinkl received The Queen's Award for Enterprise[19] for the company's work in international trade.[20]
In 2019 Twinkl was ranked at number 28 on The Sunday Times WorldFirst SME Export Track 100. The track ranks SMEs (small medium enterprises) with the fastest-growing international sales over the last two years.[21]
In 2019, Twinkl received a Guinness World Record. The record was set for ‘most people in a singing relay - multiple songs.’[22] In total, 384 people took part.
In 2020, Twinkl received The Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation [23].
